Stipulations for Review Upon Nomination
A brief narrative of our award stipulations, selection, notification, nomination, judging panel and teaching objectives follows. For those who prefer a self check list, it may be found in the criteria section.
Privacy rules are strictly followed (as they apply to our website), family values apply, proper web etiquette including copyright law, band width "stealing", permissions and acknowledgements must be followed. Web sites not meeting these and other family and generally accepted award standards will terminate the review process, no matter how many nominations they may receive. Notification will be sent for corrections which must be made, so that the review process may continue.
Selection, Notification and Nomination
To make a nomination, please use our email application form or the online application form. Include in the application the required quote and a statement that the criteria has been read.
The time between receiving two nominations and review by the panel is approximately three weeks. Declines are acknowledged. Specific reasons may be obtained by requesting comments from the award coordinator. [D]
Teaching excellence is subjective, so a few comments are presented below:

Reading on a consistent basis from varied forms influences mankind greater than all other influences combined. Therefore grammar, enlightened content, subject matter and style become the corner stones of teaching excellence.

The critic who says the use of the old, the standard and the classic in writing and literature for children gives way for up-to-date things, has had no experience with children. Teaching excellence weaves the old with the new and in the process will glean a simple truth - children and adults can and will arise to greater literary heights.

Finding that the world, the real world, somewhat lacks, the imaginative child peoples a world of its own, with fictional characters; and into that world the adult cannot enter, except in those brief moments when adult and child share and share alike in the realm of teaching and learning.

In my world of fantasy, serene pictures of harmony which are present in Faerieland, include Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet at the 1890 International Congress of Teachers of the Deaf working together, although taking different paths, toward the betterment of those among us who are hard of hearing and those who are deaf. Therefore we chose to honor them both and my grandmother too, who taught signing in her youth, by establishing our Talking Hands Award.
In our modern era, past practices are giving way to enlightened thought which is not encumbered by the "browser wars" of the late 1990's due to a union in principle of the browser creators, WAI and W3C.
We invite you to visit and explore what others have accomplished with the W3C/WAI initiative. Begin to see with clarity. Learn to use "standards" which promote accessibility for everyone. Become one with the web in a journey filled with truth and understanding and the force will be with you, for the truth is out there.

My wife recently drew a comparison between how we all build web sites and dog training. Three areas of dog competition for our fur children are similar, yet dissimilar. Agility is a spectator sport with lots of action. Conformation and Obedience are like watching wet paint dry. Text to Speech.
She said that Agility is like putting up a web site to meet our immediate expectations with little regard for the separation of structure and style. Then the realization if we wish to go further and have even more fun, we go back to basics with Obedience and Conformation.
So you read dear reader there is clearly a need for CSS to be taken seriously by graphic artists and good HTML form like XHTML or XML which is compliant too. For these are the basics. The Talking Hands Award aims to excite, inspire, and encourage participation. To begin, view some of the honorees in the list.
The rationale for nominations:

A visitor having learned something of significant value shows an appreciation for the nominated web site by stating what they have learned and hopefully applied.

Teaching and learning is not static, rather dynamic, with the realization that varied teaching techniques are required to reach a varied population with different wants and desires.
