The rich cultural heritage of Australia spans Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria on the main continent and Tasmania. Based upon thermo luminescence and other studies, Aborigines came originally from somewhere in Asia and have been in Australia some 40,000 years. Before this period there was probably a continuous land bridge between Asia and Australia. Tasmania, is now an island, because of the rising sea levels. European settlement began in 1788.
Topography, flora and fauna coupled with Aboriginal and European perceptions provide a diverse range of poetry by region. But first a wee discussion of the states of Australia.
